What to Expect From a Myofascial Release Treatment
Patients who only learn a little about myofascial release treatments many think that it is some sort of a massage. Many patients undergoing the treatment come out very relaxed and some even fall asleep during the treatment. However, it’s much more than a massage as it is targeting very specific and very tiny areas of the body to have a profound impact on the body overall. It may seem too gentle to be effective, but patients who have undergone myofascial release treatments report that it is highly effective. The therapists who are trained in myofascial release are able to target the tense parts of the fascia to relieve pain, tension, and dizziness.
A myofascial release treatment involves the therapist making tiny stretches to your muscles and fascia, sometimes using only a couple of fingers to stretch them. The treatment usually takes under an hour and is very relaxing. Some patients even fall asleep. Afterwards, there can be a range of reactions from continued relaxation, to emotional changes as the body reacts to the changes in itself. Many people don’t report a change in pain right away, or even a slight increase in pain such as when one is vaccinated and feels ill for a day, but in these cases, it can take a day or generally less time for the pain to vanish completely. Some patients report a bit of nausea or pain in a new area as the fascia sorts itself out after the treatment.
There is a way to mitigate many of these possible side effects and that is by drinking plenty of fluids during the treatments. This is because the fascia, just like any system that is being cured, is flushing out any toxins and water retention in it and this can cause much of the nausea or light headedness that people feel after the treatment. Drinking fluids mitigates or even nullifies this.
This treatment, like any other, will not work the first time around of course. It takes a few treatments for most people to keep the loss of pain. One or two treatments alone won’t do it-it’s best to have three or more treatments; as many as is needed to get rid of the pain permanently. The longer you have lived with the pain, the more treatments that you will need. Any negative side effects must be borne out just as one would bear the side effects of a vaccination; it can take a while for the body to accustom itself to what was done to it. However, it is highly effective to get rid of pains and dizziness and so for most people, any side effects are well worth the relief. The treatment itself is also very relaxing, not too long in duration, and very affordable for what one is getting.
