Improving Scoliosis with Myofascial Release

Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine is abnormally curved with side to side curves and causes the spine to be able to rotate. This condition causes people to have a hard time with motion and flexibility and can grow worse over time if left untreated. It also causes a lot of pain for the person as they try to live with it. It is an incurable, progressive condition, though it can often be made more manageable through surgery or back braces. If left completely untreated, it can lead to other medical complications, further compounding the patient’s suffering.

Although incurable, there are ways of mitigating a lot of the pain that the person is going through and one of these ways is through myofascial release. Myofascial release is a soft tissue treatment that can go a long way towards dealing with the pain and limited mobility of scoliosis as it releases tension in the fascia around the spine. This mitigates a lot of the pain, not only around the spine, but also the neck which can get very sore and lead to limited mobility as well. While not getting rid of scoliosis altogether, it does ease much of the symptoms which makes it easier to live with overall.

Myofascial release does not cure scoliosis, but it does ease most of the symptoms such as pain and decreased mobility. This makes it easier to live with. The treatment is a lot gentler than other therapies and will help you to deal with the surgeries that may have to be done in order to further correct the problem. Scoliosis may be incurable right now, but it can be effectively managed and thus better lived with. The therapist that your doctor will refer you to may well ask you about myofascial release because it is a good way of dealing with scoliosis without resorting to drugs or harsh therapies.
